NewZNew (Kochi) : The controversial ‘Kiss of Love’ protest was mired in chaos as nearly 50 protesters were taken into preventive custody by the police even before the event began.
The police said that the protesters were taken into preventive custody for disturbing law and order. Angry at the arrest of their fellow protesters, others mobbed the venue and began shouting slogans. ‘Kiss of Love’ – which the organisers say is a gathering of like-minded people to raise awareness against moral policing – has generated much political heat in the state. The organisers had asked couples to assemble at Marine Drive in Kochi at 5 pm today and express their love for each other by kissing, holding hands or however they wish.
The police had not given permission for the protest to take place. But the organisers had said they will go ahead with their protest. The event is being organised by ‘Free Thinkers’, a group of Facebook users.
