GGDSD College Successfully Hosts Acting and Filmmaking Workshop with Kulraj Randhawa: The Post Graduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh, successfully conducted an engaging and insightful workshop titled ‘Personal Development: Acting Techniques & Filmmaking’ today.
The event featured celebrated actor and writer Kulraj Randhawa and esteemed educationist and filmmaker Prof. P.S. Nirola, who shared their expertise with students, leaving them inspired and better equipped with creative and communication skills.
Ms Randhawa narrated interesting anecdotes related to her life and acting career. She explained that the period of struggle can make or break a person. “There are no shortcuts. You have to work hard.” She further stated that classrooms can never fully prepare a professional for the movie set. Talking about the evolution of mobile technology with regard to journalism and the creative arts, she said, “One must adapt to the changing times. One must innovate and create content that is different from the rest. Content creators and actors should develop their own unique style.”
Prof. Nirola mentioned that information, knowledge and wisdom are required for creative writing. He said that writing should raise curiosity of the audience. Further, he explained the importance of discipline and organisation on the set. Mr. Nirola also mentioned that new trends like micro dramas and home theatres are invading the cinematic space.
The workshop provided students with knowledge of acting techniques, storytelling, dialogue writing and the fundamentals of filmmaking. Attendees actively participated in interactive sessions aimed at enhancing their confidence, self-expression and understanding of cinematic storytelling.
Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal commended the success of the workshop, stating, “This event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore the intersection of media, creativity, and self-improvement. Learning from industry professionals like Kulraj Randhawa and Prof. P.S. Nirola has given them invaluable insights that will benefit their careers and personal growth.”
Echoing the enthusiasm, Dr. Priya Chadha, Head of the Department remarked, “In today’s digital era, storytelling is a powerful tool. This workshop has empowered our students with skills that go beyond journalism, helping them become confident communicators and creative thinkers.”
Students were particularly thrilled with the opportunity to interact with experts and gain hands-on experience. With overwhelming participation and positive feedback, the workshop proved to be a stepping stone for students aspiring to build careers in media, journalism and filmmaking.
At the event, students who had participated in various activities and projects of the Department and the Young Communicators Club were awarded certificates.
