Debaditya Pramanik, the topper of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2017, secured the All India Rank (AIR) – 1 by scoring the highest marks in this entrance exam. He shared his success mantras and best practices for the aspirants of WBJEE, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and other engineering entrances of 2018. Apart from acing WBJEE 2017, he also secured AIR 38 in JEE Advanced 2017.

He used the practice material of FIITJEE for his preparation and secured the first position amongst 1,17,574 other candidates who appeared for WBJEE 2017. Debaditya took admission to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA) for a Physics course.

This article covers the various tips shared by Debaditya that one can follow to improve their WBJEE 2018 result, and that of other engineering entrance exams.

1- Pace-up From Class 11th

Debaditya shared that for acing WBJEE 2017 with rank 1, and getting rank 38 in JEE Advanced, he set his goals early and started to prepare from class 11. He further added that he started to cover the syllabus of class 11th just from class 10th.

This was because he knew that most of the engineering entrances cover syllabus from both class 11th and 12th. He also suggested that one must not attempt WBJEE or any other engineering entrance exam with the aim to just qualify it, but mainly to secure good ranking and marks.

He added that students must never neglect any of the three subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. This is because each mark from any subject holds similar importance and plays crucial role in improving their overall rank in engineering entrances.

2- Practice Regularly to Increase Your Attempting Speed

Debaditya told that the key factor behind his big success in the WBJEE 2017 and JEE Advanced 2017 exams was his speed. In such exams, one needs to cover a large number of questions in a limited time frame.

He shared that he developed his speed by practicing regularly and that your preparation would not be as fruitful if you would not practice the covered syllabus regularly. Once your theoretical concepts are clear, you should practice lots of problems from every chapters to be proficient and confident for the exam.

3- Identify the Pattern Similarities of Various Entrances

Debaditya firstly suggested that one must keep all their options open by preparing for and attempting multiple engineering entrances. Then they must compare the pattern of the various entrances and identify the similar ones.

He told that the pattern of the WBJEE exam is pretty much similar to that of JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. So by knowing this, Debaditya prepared for all these comparable entrances at the same time.

4- Attempt Previous Years’ Papers of Top Entrances and Mock Tests

It is very important for students to attempt previous years’ papers of different entrances and must go through the paper analysis given by experts on such papers. The pattern in many numerical problems is repeated in papers over few years.

Additionally, students must attempt mock tests, which gives them the experience to manage their time while attempting the real WBJEE 2018 and other entrances. Mock tests attempted on regular basis also develop confidence and stamina of students for the real exam.

5- Select the Best Books

Debaditya shared that it is good to follow few reference books for covering as much problems as the students can. But at the same time, they should also avoid the reference of too many books.

Students will need to be clear of the concepts explained therein and practice the problems. He shared that the books that he followed for his preparation for WBJEE, JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams included the study material from FIITJEE, Arihant, and Tata McGraw Hill.

6- Coaching is Never Mandatory to Crack Top Engineering Entrances

Debaditya conveyed to engineering aspirants that it is an add-on to join a coaching center for the preparation of a reputed engineering entrance, but it is never mandatory. There are lots of students who secure very good marks in JEE Main, JEE Advanced, WBJEE and other at par engineering entrances without joining a coaching center.

This will be very much possible, if you follow the same discipline that coaching institutions implement for their students. At the end, the only thing that matters is that students who would have worked hard in the correct direction would attain success.
