NewZNew (Chandigarh) : The Punjab Government has approved a innovative plan to make Siswan and surrounding forest areas located on foothills of Shivalik range on the outskirts of Chandigarh as a hub of Eco-tourism.
Disclosing this, an official spokesperson that this project to be set up on PPP mode is envisaged on the multiple sites in the forest area measuring 12.5 acre including 6.5 kilometre trek from irrigation guest house at the Siswan dam to the Mirzapur forest rest house. Further elaborating, the spokesperson said that the project envisages the creation of Cafeteria, Water Sports, Eco-Huts, Nature Trail/Trek and also recreational and entertainment activities such as- Kids play corner, Bird Watching, Rappelling (Climbing Skill).
He said that the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board and GMADA, through Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB), the nodal agency of the state government to develop infrastructural projects on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, has devised a comprehensive plan to develop an eco-tourism project at Siswan in Mohali.
Divulging more information, the spokesperson said that after green signal from the Ministry of Environment and Forests for undertaking the project, the developing of dam bund along with irrigation rest house and the nature trek will be carried out by Department of Irrigation and Department of Forest, Government of Punjab.
