North India Skill Summit, 2017 Strives to Hone Skill Development
N

newznew (Chandigarh) : FICCI and NITTTR being serious stakeholders in skill building, joined hands to conduct a one- of-its kind North India Skill Summit along with a round table on consolidation and networking Sector Skills Councils (SSCs), CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and VTPs (Vocational Training Providers) for skilling India. The North India Skill Summit, 2017 took place at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) campus, Sector-26 Chandigarh.

While delivering the innaugral address Sh. Sarvesh Kaushal, IAS, Special Cheif-Secretary-cum-Director General, MGSIPA, Punjab said, “In today’s dynamic scenario it is very important to focus equally on self-skilling. Educational institutions these days are becoming factories for producing unemployable youth. Quality issues are all pervading.” He further added, “The policy of no exam till class 10th was a disaster. It has only led to the production of sub-standard unemployable youth force. This seems like making a fish climb a pole. In order to make efficient use of our skills and resources, it would be better to assist the fish to swim, and the monkeys to climb the pole.”

“Through the medium of North India Skill Summit 2017, FICCI strives to carve a niche in utilizing the ‘Demographic Dividend’ of our country, which is a huge virtue as well as a huge responsibility, at the same time. Initiatives by various domains like Startup India, Make in India, Smart City etc. are contributing towards a robust economic growth, while making efficient and effective uses of inherent skills.” said Mr. G.B. Singh, Regional Head, Regional Council of Punjab, Haryana & Himachal Pradesh-FICCI.

In order to deliberate on the role of different agencies and Sector Skill Councils in Skill Development, the Summit formulated a strategic road map for sustainable and integrated skill development involving different agencies and stakeholders.

Shri Rajesh Sharma, Managing Director, Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam laid emphasis on reaping the demographic dividends of the country by stating that, “The primary objective behind North India Skill Summit 2017 is to coordinate stakeholders in this ecosystem, and incarnate a roadmap towards skill development. The outcome will not come in one day. However, staunch efforts and sustainability will help in projecting an upward trajectory in the field of education and skill development.”

Speaking about the initiatives operating towards promoting skill development in state of Haryana, Dr. Raj Nehru, Vice-Chancellor, Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University emphasized on the need to change from custodial approach of skill development to a collaborative model of skill development.

Dr. J.S. Saini, Round Table Convener, Dr. P.K. Tulsi, Director-in-charge, NITTTR Chandigarh, Dr. R.K. Wats, Round Table Co-Convener, Brig. (Dr.) S.S. Pabla, President BSDU, Jaipur, graced the occasion with their presence.
