NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Mrs. Poonam Sharma, Mayor of Chandigarh today flagged off 160 new cycle carts (purchased at approximate cost of Rs. 18.31 Lacs) in front of old motor garage, MOH department, Sector 20-C, Chandigarh. Sh. Darshan Kumar Garg, Chairman, Sanitation Committee, Sh. Rajiv Gupta, Joint Commissioner, MCC and other concerned officers of MC were also present on the occasion.

With these additional 160 cycle carts, the Municipal Corporation shall be increasing the capacity from existing 340 to 500 cycle carts, which are used to lift and transport garbage.  The Municipal Corporation had last year added 100 new cycle carts in the MOH wing. The new added cycle carts have been deployed in different sectors at least five in each sector.

The Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation maintaining best sanitation services in country but city residents should also take responsibility to keep their surroundings neat and clean.
