Cast of Hit Sketch-Comedy Show Ask Fans to Adopt, Never Buy, Animals

NewZNew (Mumbai – Kulbir Singh Kalsi) : The stars of Comedy Nights With Kapil know a thing or two about family, and that’s why they – along with Kapil Sharma’s lovable rescued dog Zanjeer – are teaming up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India for a brand-new campaign, shot by top photographer Gaurav Sawn. The ad shows the cast on set alongside the words “DOG Bless This Family! Adopt a Dog From a Shelter or the Streets – Don’t Buy”. The print visual of the campaign can be viewed and downloaded here.

In an exclusive interview with PETA, the cast – including Kapil Sharma, Sumona Chakravarti, Ali Asgar, Sunil Grover and Kiku Sharda – share how honorary cast member Zanjeer, who accompanies Sharma to the set daily, has transformed their working lives. “[N]ow, he is a part of our family”, says Sharma, who recounts one memorable occasion in which, Zanjeer, a retired police dog, even attempted to protect his beloved actors by breaking up a staged “fight” between two cast members.

The cast also weigh in on animal homelessness. “People throw stones [at] them, torture them and they get injured”, says Asgar – who plays the character of Daadi – of dogs and cats left to fend for themselves on the streets. “They suffer from diseases, and there is no one to take care of them, so this is our responsibility.”

In the interview, Chakravarti and Sharma also point out that people who buy and discard animals contribute to the overpopulation of stray dogs and cats who struggle to survive on the streets of India. Many of these animals go hungry or are injured, hit by vehicles or abused. Countless others are left to languish in animal shelters because there aren’t enough good homes for them. PETA and the cast of Comedy Nights want people to know that they can bring joy into the life of a homeless dog or cat – and into their own lives – by adopting one (or two!).
