Advanced 3 Tesla MRI (Spectra Siemens, Germany), which happens to be the first of its kind in any private hospital in the region, was inaugurated at Fortis Hospital here. It was inaugurated by Capt. It was inaugurated by Capt. Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister, Punjab. He said, “This facility will go a long way in providing quality healthcare to people of Punjab.”

On the occasion, Mr. Abhijit Singh, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Mohali, said, Having the Hon’ble Chief Minister Capt. The inputs about the usefulness of the machine given by the clinicians of the hospital are fantastic. Our orthopedic surgeons are excited about 3D imaging of joints; our neurologists have expressed that they will benefit from perfusion and tractography; and our urologists have said that the detailed information that they will receive from this machine will help them to detect prostate cancer more easily.

He added, “The MRI machine has the capability to detect full body cancers, and it is extremely beneficial because the investigation is non- radiating. This machine is able to perform detailed MRI examinations; including imaging of brain tumors, prostate cancers, heart function and breast cancers resulting in early and accurate diagnosis of diseases.”

According to Dr SPS Chawla, Head of Radiology, Fortis Hospital Mohali, “Till now there are only 1.5 Tesla or lower strength MRI machines in the private sector in the Tricity. This first 3Tesla MRI in the private sector will definitely help patients of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Chandigarh to more in-depth MRI investigations like MRI Perfusion, multi parameteric prostate MRI, Cardiac MRI, MRI Mammograms and Whole Body MRI etc. Furthermore, they won’t need to travel far for these investigations any longer.”

The MRI system is patient friendly, takes less time and is a silent MRI as compared to other MRI scanners in the tricity.
