NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Adab Foundation a Chandigarh based non-profit registered society that aims to bring Writers, Poets, Actors, Scriptwriters & Thespians together on a single platform to initiate a meaningful exchange of ideas, held a media meet to announce the final schedule & other details of the 4th Chandigarh Literature Festival(CLF 2015).

The media meet was addressed by Mitul Dikshit, Chairman, Adab Foundation & Akshay Kumar Gupta, Professor of English, PU — who is also one of the critics during the festival. Adab has collaborated with PU for this year’s edition.  It was announced that the festival will be held from Novemer 5-8 at Chandigarh Club in Sector 1, Chandigarh. The same will kick off with a Welcome & Theme introduction by Mitul Dikshit followed by a Festival Introduction by Jai Arjun Singh, Festival Director CLF 2015.

The inaugural session on the 5th evening, moderated by noted TV Journalist Sagarika Ghose, will be about Biblio’s –a leading literary Magazine’s journey and the changing landscape of literary criticism over the past two decades. A panel discussion comprising its current editorial team members, including Dileep Padgaonkar, Rukhmini Bhaya Nair, Brinda Datta and Seema Alavi will walk the audience through the journey of India’s most respected literary magazine. The second session on the inaugural day is a special one where Kiran Nagarkar speaks with famous writer Nayantara Sahgal about her large body of work.

“CLF 2015 has a razor-sharp focus, being primarily made up of sessions where a critic is in conversation with an author about a specific book, nominated beforehand by the critic. We asked the Biblio editorial team to nominate a few of their favourite books across categories & then scheduled sessions where those books would be discussed. Six of the nominations 3 each in Fiction and Non-fiction were made by Biblio.” Said Mitul Dikshit.

Day 2, November 6, will see ‘Fractals’ Poet Sudeep Sen in conversation with critic Shashi Tharoor. ‘Bedtime Stories’ Author Kiran Nagarkar in conversation with critic Jai Arjun Singh is slated to be interesting. ‘Eating God’ Author Arundhathi Subramaniam in conversation with critic Akshaya Kumar Gupta will be next. A session of ‘Would You Like Some Bread with That Book’ Author Veena Venogopal, who will be in conversation with critic Poorva Rajaram is an attraction. ‘Landscapes of Fear: Understanding Impunity’ Author Navsharan in conversation with critic Manisha Sethi will be next. ‘Righteous Republic’ Author Ananya Vajpeyi in conversation with critic Dileep Padgaonkar will be up next.

Day 3, November 7, will see ‘The Dead Camel and Other Stories of Love’ Author Parvati Sharma in conversation with critic Aditya Mani Jha. ‘India Shastra’ Author Shashi Tharoor in conversation with critic Mihir Sharma will enthuse. ‘When God Is A Traveller’ Author Arundhathi Subramaniam in conversation with critic Nirupama Dutt will follow.  ‘60 Indian Poets’ Author Jeet Thayil in conversation with critic Jennifer Robertson is also scheduled. ‘Barf Aashna Parindey’ Author Tarannum Riyaz in conversation with critic Noor Zaheer will be held. This will be followed by ‘Space Gulliver: Chronicles of an Alien’ Poet Sampurna Chatterjee in conversation with critic Arundhathi Subramaniam.

Day 4, November 8, will be the final day of CLF 2015 and will see interesting sessions. ‘The Sly Company of People Who Care’ Author Rahul Bhattacharya in conversation with critic Rukmini Bhaya Nair. ‘Bhai Jaita’s Sri Gur Katha’ Author Neeti Singh in conversation with critic Desraj Kali. ‘1971: A Global History of the Creation of Bangladesh’ Author Srinath Raghavan in conversation with critic Sukumar Muralidharan & ‘Srajan Ka Rasayan’ Author Shivmurti in conversation with critic Satyanand Nirupam are planned.A  unique Session on Literary criticism by Rajni George, Satish Padmanabhan,Trisha Gupta, Rukmini Bhaya Nair & Jai Arjun Singh will be held. ‘Dream Chasers’ Author Sukriti Paul in conversation with critic Nirupama Datt. ‘No Direction Rome’ Author Kaushik Barua in conversation with critic Shougat Dasgupta. ‘Churning the Earth’ Authors Aseem Shrivastava and Ashish Kothari in conversation with critic Darryl D’Monte and  ‘Pluto’ Poet Gulzar and Translator Nirupama Dutt in conversation with critic Sukriti Paul will be held.

“We will be celebrating films too at CLF 2015. Four film sessions featuring directors, screenwriters & some very fine critics will be organised. Baradwaj Rangan will discuss Badlapur with director Sriram Raghavan, Trisha Gupta will discuss NH10 with director Navdeep Singh and writer Sudip Sharma, Mihir Pandya will discuss the Marathi film Killa with director Avinash Arun & Uday Bhatia will discuss Masaan with director Neeraj Ghaywan and writer Varun Grover. All these films will also be screened.” Said Akshay Kumar.

‘Out of Print’ Magazine’s Indira Chandrasekhar will hold writing workshops for young writers

“Over three days in Chandigarh’s early November chill; the nominated books would be read out, enacted, discussed and debated. Each session would be unpredictable, riveting, informal and intimate. The critics and authors participating in the festival will contribute a piece of original writing in a genre of their choice. These contributions will be compiled in an anthology dedicated to the city of Chandigarh.”Sums up Mitul Dikshit,

There will be a variety of events aimed at increasing audience participation. These will include Guess-the-Book reading sessions, art and writing competitions et al. On 6th an evening performance by renowned Sufi Singer Azaad & On 7th an evening performance by a Delhi based band GURUZ will be held.
