The three day 2nd International Conference under the aegis of Society of Materials and Mechanical Engineers (SOMME) held at Shaheed Udham Singh Group of Institutions, Tangori concluded here on 04 November, 2017. Dr. Satya Prakash, Former Emeritus Professor, IIT Roorkee was the chief guest and J. Karthikeyan, ASB Industries Inc., Barberton, USA was the guest of honor on the valedictory function to grace the occasion.

In Conference as many as 200 researchers from Canada, U.K, USA and various other parts of India participated in this event to present their researches as Paper Presentation, Poster Presentation and Model Presentation and for their spectacular presentations researchers were honored with cash prizes while renowned scientists were honored with certificates.

On the third day of conference, three undergraduate (students of B.Tech) were honored with Cash prizes after passing the two preliminary rounds. In first round 55 teams were shortlisted and in second round 13 teams amongst which the top three were selected for the cash prizes as undergraduate researchers.  Arshpreet Kaur of Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda was honored in Paper Presentation with Rs. 51000/- while Navneet Singh Hans and Harkirat Singh of Amritsar College of Engineering & Technology, Amritsar were honored with Rs. 31000/-. Girisha Sohal of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana was honored with Rs. 21000/- cash prize.

Dr. Satya Prakash said that every student can play a vital role in the development of the society in their own trait. “Our education system should follow interdisciplinary model of education to compete with the world class technology. Time has come for a better change and still there is a need of constant improvement” Dr. Prakash added.

Er. Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu, Chairman SUS Group welcomed and thanked the chief guest for sparing his valuable time and sharing his views. It is great honor and opportunity for SUS Group for hosting AFTMME’17 and is a great way to foster linkage among scientists, researchers, academicians and professional practitioners where the researchers, academicians and professional practitioners meet to exchange their ideas and experiences on latest research developments and cutting edge technology and network with each other as this conference offers a unique and once-a-year opportunity.

Dr. J.S Dhaliwal, Vice Chairman SUS Group while speaking on the occasion said that it is positive step of SUS Group in collaboration with Society of Materials and Mechanical Engineers which aims at strengthening and combining the activities of various scientists working in universities, colleges and other institutions all around the world and in order to encourage young scientists, awards are given in different disciplines of science, he added.

Dr. D.S Hira while addressing the researchers, principals and teachers congratulated all and said that one should be optimistic and hardworking to be successful in life. He further motivated the students, staff to never stop giving yourself a chance to soar to new heights and never stop your mind to new perspectives, ideas.
